Busy busy busy... but what else in new?
Balls are whizzing about in the air, hurtling by in juggling arcs as I try to hit multiple deadlines on multiple projects all at once. I think I've actually got a schedule worked out for all of it now.
As noted, the FTP is letting me upload stuff, which is wonderful... when i started on redoing the site, I didn't really think about how many little pieces there are to this, because it is a pretty simple, clean style (thanks to Irene's initial layout), but the mood of the strip is about to change, and the v2.0 needs a look to signify it, so prgress continues on it, working side by side with getting the new strips lined up to roll.
Had a nice lunch with Steve from The Panic Channel on Friday, played catch up on some things and also talked about where we were going on project:VBM . We've got a really good plan in place and we are committed to making it happen, but there are a bazillion things that can happen to make it go awry, so we'll just keep pushing...
Project:VBM is indicative of what I find myself doing more and more of... being Mr. Business finangler. Figuring out how to logisitcally make projects happen, get deals in place, make money etc. These are the kinds of things that I specifically became an artist to avoid, but now find myslef hip deep in it all. The alternative, however, is that you are at the whim and mercy of someone else having projects for you, or coming up with cool shit on their own and figuring out the logistics. From experience, those are few and far between and really, "there is no fate but that which we make for ourselves." So, as they say, there you have it.
The DS/PSP deal is signed, just some final legal hoops to jump through, so that is a very good thing indeed.
and on the Winter's Homecming front, been talking with various publishers, and reaction seems strong, if somewhat cautious. One spoke of the very real danger of it being "unrelentingly bleak". Which I thought was funny and the perfect pull quote for the back of the book.
I don't think WH is bleak... at least not unrelentingly so. There's a lot of black humor, a lot of sarcasm, and there are moments of real human 'gray areas' throughout it. It's easy to demonize someone who has done wrong by you. Even easier in fiction to do. Reduce human's to archetypes and call it a day. But to me, that's kinda... boring. So, hopefully the book will have balance to it, that whole Ying/Yang, light/dark thing. Can't really measure one without the other.
ok, off to bed.
